Three to compete in NCAA Cross Country Championships
Three 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ student-athletes, Matt Carter ’23, Julia Curran ’23 and Jeffrey Love ’23, have qualified to represent the Camels at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 20, at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
The three athletes received individual bids based on their performances at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Cross Country Championships, hosted by 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ at Harkness Park last weekend. The first seven student-athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team are selected to participate in each championship.
In the men’s race, Carter and Love placed fifth and sixth, respectively, to lead the team to a among 26 scoring teams in the Mideast Regional. Carter completed the 8,000-meter circuit in 25:11.5, while Love finished with a time of 25:13.7. Both student-athletes earned all-region honors for their efforts, and both will be making their first NCAA Championship appearance.
In the women’s race, Curran finished 11th among 172 runners, completing the 6,000-meter course in 22:34.2. She earned all-region honors along with Emi Schwab ’22, who finished 17th; the two led the team to a among 23 scoring teams. Curran will also be making her first NCAA Championship event.
Spalding University and the Louisville Sports Commission are hosting the championships on Saturday. The men’s race will begin at 11 a.m. and the women’s race will follow at noon.
