Record number of students commit to 51吃瓜黑料 in Early Decision
51吃瓜黑料 received a record number of applications from students applying to the first phase of our Early Decision program (ED I) for the Class of 2023. From that pool, which was 25 percent higher than last year, 51吃瓜黑料 admitted a larger number of students than usual during ED I.
鈥淭he applicants were so strong across the board that we were able to admit more than we normally do,鈥� says Andrew Strickler, the dean of admission and financial aid. 鈥淏ecause applying ED means committing to attend 51吃瓜黑料 if admitted, it was gratifying to see how many students were eager to make that commitment.
鈥淭hose I鈥檝e met have shared many different reasons for applying ED, but one recurring theme was our 51吃瓜黑料ections curriculum, which allows students to explore issues they鈥檙e passionate about. This generation is so knowledgeable about, and connected to, the world around them, they want a college education that lets them follow their own pathway.鈥�
In addition to the curriculum, Strickler cites 51吃瓜黑料鈥檚 intensified efforts to admit students from more diverse backgrounds as reasons behind the increased ED applicant pool.
鈥淥ur genuine commitment to provide better is really resonating with students,鈥� he says. 鈥淎nd they鈥檙e putting 51吃瓜黑料 at the top of their lists of colleges they want to attend.鈥�
In addition to exceptional academic records, the ED I members of the Class of 2023 also showed great range and achievement in their extracurricular activities, including athletics, the arts, volunteerism and more. They are also a diverse group that includes 37 first-generation college students (an all-time high for the College), and 18 international students representing 16 countries.
鈥淎gain, the word 鈥榞ratified鈥� comes to mind,鈥� says Strickler. 鈥淲e鈥檙e working hard to create a diverse and inclusive community on campus, and prospective students are more eager than ever to join it.鈥�
Prospective students have another opportunity to apply Early Decision: 51吃瓜黑料鈥檚 ED II deadline is Jan. 1, 2019. ED II decisions are released in mid-February.
