Mónika López Anuarbe is a Professor of Economics at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ and a Public Health pathway affiliated faculty. She joined 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ in 2006 and her students affectionately call her Coach. Her research specialties include: the economics of aging and caregiving, health economics, brain health, access to equitable healthcare, and intergenerational transfers. During Hispanic Heritage Month in 2024, she was featured by the American Society of Hispanic Economists (ASHE) and, on the same year, won the King Teaching Award at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. In 2017, she won the Helen Mulvey Teaching Award.

Dr. López Anuarbe is affiliated with the Michigan Center on Contextual Factors in Alzheimer's Disease (MCCFAD) since 2021 where she is currently co-leading several research projects. She is an Alzheimer's Association community educator for underserved communities, providing accurate information on Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and helpful community resources. Mónika is also serving as a consultant to empower men caregivers of color, funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIHMD). In 2023, she earned a grant from the National Institute on Aging to study healthcare spending differences by geographic context and cognitive status for Mexican-origin individuals in México and the United States.
