Associate Dean of the Faculty for Academic Affairs, Professor of Botany and Environmental Studies

As the Associate Dean of the Faculty for Academic Affairs, Chad oversees the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏections general education program. He also collaborates with the Office of Institutional Research on annual curricular assessment, and oversees department, program and center self-studies and visiting committees. The ADoAA chairs the academic calendar committee, serves as the DoF representative on the Academic and Administrative Procedures Committee, the Commencement Committee, the Co-Sponsorship fund committee, and serves as a participating member of the Educational Planning Committee. The ADoAA liaises with the Academic Resource Center and Office of Admissions regarding prospective student programming.

Libby Friedman

Assistant Dean of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏections and Coordinator of Intersession

Libby manages and supports the components of the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏections program, including programming, promotion, budgets, and logistics. She coordinates the All-College Symposium and Summer Courses, administrates the Pathways, coordinates several student summer research programs, and oversees First Year Seminar Student Engagement Funds.

At the college, Libby previously served as Assistant Director of the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology. She serves on the Global-Local Engagement Committee, was chair of Staff Council 2012 - 2014, and serves on the Priorities, Planning, and Budget Committee, 2025 - 2028. Libby is an active 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ alumna, class of ’80, majoring in Art History and Studio Art, and has served on the ’80 reunion committees.. Libby is focused on acknowledgement and recognition of staff’s contributions to the overall mission of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ.

Xia manages the budgets, expenses, income, grants, gifts and general accounting for 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏections and related programs, including First-Year Seminars, Pathways, the All-College Symposium, Civic Leaders and the Funded Summer Research Program. Xia also serves as Staff Assistant for the Holleran Center for Community Action and Public Policy.
